NONPROFIT STARTUP & CONSULTING

Build it right
or fix what's broken.

Starting a nonprofit is exciting right up until you hit the paperwork, the strategy questions, and the hundred decisions nobody warned you about. Whether you're building from scratch or untangling an organization that's already running, I help you get organized, make a real plan, and get through the startup process without losing your mind. You stay focused on the mission. I build the structure and systems underneath it.

WHO YOU'RE WORKING WITH

I've been in the nonprofit space since 2004, and I've spent those years doing the work, not just advising on it.

As a Donor Relations & Development Officer, I led fundraising efforts that increased the nonprofit startup's budget to $2 million. In 2008, launched a global nonprofit network and built its marketplace resource center from the ground up. That network grew to more than 200 partners worldwide and is still running today.

Here's the part that matters most for you: I've helped more than 26 organizations across the U.S. secure their 501(c)(3) status. More than half of those achieved that status within 45 days of filing. I know what the process takes, where people get stuck, and how to keep yours moving.

And it's not just startups. A lot of my consulting is with nonprofits that are already running but have stalled out. Programs that lost their thread, fundraising that flatlined, a board that's checked out, processes nobody's touched in years. I find what's actually broken, usually a system or a habit that stopped making sense a long time ago, and fix it, so the next grant cycle, the next board meeting, the next year actually looks different.

what you get

Starting from Scratch?

  • A structure built right from day one and ready for your 501(c)(3) application. I prep and organize everything, and depending on your situation, I handle the filing too. For more complex orgs or filings that may involve legal exposure, I'll bring in a nonprofit attorney to ensure you're fully protected.

  • A strategic plan that turns your mission into real steps with real deadlines, not a document that sits in a drawer.

  • A fundraising and grant plan designed to actually bring money in.

  • A board that functions, with governance that holds up when it counts.

Already running but stuck?

  • An operational audit that finds what's slowing you down and fixes it.

  • Systems and processes rebuilt so the work actually flows instead of bottlenecks.

  • A fundraising and grant plan to get the money moving again.

  • A board and governance tune-up that gets everyone pulling in the same direction.

How it works

  • Discovery Session. We talk through your mission, where you are right now, and what you're trying to build.
Note: The session is $125, and if you move forward, the full amount will be applied to your first invoice. So if we're a fit, it costs you nothing.

  • Your Roadmap. You get a plan built for your organization, whether you're starting at zero or cleaning up something that already exists.

  • The Work. Filing prep, governance, strategy, fundraising, and audits. Whatever your build calls for, I do it alongside you and keep it moving.

  • Accountability. Regular check-ins so the plan actually happens instead of dying in a folder.

pricing

Every nonprofit is different, so every quote is too. I quote after the Discovery Session, not before, because I'm not going to price a job I haven't scoped. Once I know what you're building and/or where you're stuck, you'll get one flat fee for the entire engagement. If it's a fit, the $125 Discovery Session fee comes right off the top.

A QUICK, HONEST NOTE

I'm a business and strategy consultant, not an attorney, accountant, or tax advisor. I prep and organize your startup and, depending on your situation, handle the filing myself. For more complex organizations or anything that may involve legal exposure, I bring in a nonprofit attorney to handle the filing and make sure you're protected. For legal opinions, tax questions, and compliance, you'll always work with a licensed attorney or accountant. Think of me as the person who builds it and keeps it moving so you're set up right from the start.
